Trapping Technician- Evening

Job Description


This is a part time seasonal position where an employee is hired for a limited period during any calendar year.

Starting Pay $10.00/ Hour


To set up mosquito surveillance traps used for the West Nile Virus program in order to identify and test mosquitoes.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Set up traps according to the procedure at different locations previously identified before 8:00pm
    • A list of locations to pick up traps is provided for each evening
    • The number of traps to set up may vary every day according to the season
  • Keep accurate records all data gathered during a trapping session
  • Coordinate with the morning Trapping Technician to report any changes to the schedule or trapping locations
  • Maintain traps including proper care of CO2 cylinders, regulators, and batteries
  • Perform any other related duties as required by management

Education and Experience

  • Education equivalent to high school diploma (appropriate work experience which will develop a level of achievement and literacy equivalent to a high school education may be substituted for the required education)
  • Should have or be trained to have a working knowledge and understanding of:
    • Entomology or other closely-related field with experience in vector surveillance and control
    • Application of scientific principles to practical situations
    • Basic knowledge of computer software (Outlook, Microsoft Office, etc.)
    • Operate specialized equipment
